Nova Scotia states that, as of April 1, 2020, the sale of flavoured e-cigarettes and liquids is banned in the province.

Nova Scotia joined the federal coordinated vaping products system on April 1, 2026. Nova Scotia’s tax bulletin states that CRA administers the federal excise duty framework and that vaping products in Nova Scotia must be affixed with a Nova Scotia excise stamp to indicate that additional duty has been paid.  

CRA also confirms that Nova Scotia was added as a specified vaping province, with amendments coming into force on February 26, 2026, and that the coordinated vaping duty system applies additional vaping duty in respect of specified vaping provinces.  

Nova Scotia’s bulletin also states that no retail vendor may possess a vaping product unless it is in its original consumer packaging, is provincially stamped, and was purchased from a wholesale vendor that held a valid wholesale vendor’s permit at the time of purchase.  

Where Vaping Is Restricted 

The Smoke-free Places Act applies to e-cigarettes and requires indoor workplaces, public places, select outdoor public spaces, outdoor licensed areas, and patios of restaurants, lounges, beverage rooms, and cabarets to be smoke-free. Municipalities may also add further restrictions.
